The United States is a melting pot of different cultures and people from all over the world with a myriad of different backgrounds. The number of people living in the country is increasing every day. Although English is the most commonly spoken in the country, there is no official language. Today in the USA, there are more single people than married ones.
Americans don’t exactly always take up on their civic duty. There are more Facebook users registered to live in the United States, than U.S. citizens who voted in the 2012 election. Good thing people voted in the past, because in 1893 for example, an amendment was proposed that would rename the United States to the “United States of the Earth”. That’s a mouthful right? Good thing that was shot down.
It’s no secret that Americans love to eat! There are hundreds of thousands, even millions of restaurants in the country ranging every style of cuisine thanks to the cultural melting pot that is America. Americans are the biggest consumers of pizza in the world. In fact, more than 100 acres, yes, ACRES, of pizza are served in the U.S. every day! Every second, Americans altogether consume 100 pounds of chocolate. This all sounds pretty impressive, but it’s no wonder that 1 in 3 Americans is classified as obese.
Approximately 46 million people visit the Walt Disney World Resort every year. As the Magic Kingdom is the 3rd most popular attraction in the world, it obviously feed quite a few people. One single American consumes as many resources as 32 Kenyans would.
The 44th President of the United States, Barack Obama, was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2009 in Oslo, Norway. The official reason for him receiving it was for his efforts for arms control, disarmament and efforts towards global cooperation, especially his attempts at reaching out to the Muslim world following the long standing history of high tensions and poor foreign relations between the US and Muslim States.
In total, four US Presidents have received the Nobel Peace Prize; Barack Obama, Jimmy Carter, Woodrow Wilson, and Theodore Roosevelt. Only one vice president has received the honor, Al Gore, for his environmental advocacy. The first to win it was Theodore Roosevelt who received the honor in 1906 for his efforts to bring the Russo-Japanese War to an end.

The famous Hamburger as sold in restaurants like McDonalds or Burger king most likely originates / took its name from the city of Hamburg, Germany. In 1847 the German shipping company "Hamburg American Line" transported many immigrants from Germany to the United States (mainly New York). One of their favorite dishes was the Hamburg-Style American fillet or also called the beefsteak Hambourgeoise. Early American preparations of minced beef were changed to fit the taste of the new immigrants and giving it in the end a name which reminder the immigrants of the city they once left behind: Hamburg.
